Abstract

390,432. Controlling aircraft. FOLEY, C. V. L., Oakfield, Sligo, Irish Free State. Oct. 4, 1932, No. 27559. [Class 4.] Aircraft are provided with an auxiliary elevator for use in emergency and/or as a tailtrimming device which auxiliary elevator is mounted immediately in front of the normal elevator of the craft in a cut-away portion of the fixed tail plane to which the latter is also hinged. As shown, the auxiliary elevator 1 is hinged to a spar 11 of the tail plane 4 and the elevator 2 is hinged to a spar 2b disposed at the trailing edge of the tail plane and bounding a space 3 in which rocks the elevator 1. Elevator 1 is independently operated by hand or foot control provided with means for locking it in any adjusted position.
