Abstract

389,722. Frequency changing. AKT.- GES. BROWN, BOVERI, ET CIE, Baden, Switzerland. Aug. 10, 1932, No. 22421. Convention date, Aug. 10, 1931. [Class 38 (ii).] Three phase networks N1, N2, Fig. 1, are interconnected by means of a frequency changer which consists of two groups of rectifiers G1<SP>1>, G 1<SP>11> and G2<SP>1>, G2<SP>11>, connected by transformers T1, T2 to the networks, the secondary star points and cathodes in each group being cross-connected. Rectifiers G1<SP>1>, G2<SP>11> have control grids which are supplied with potentials in phase opposition to the potentials produced at the corresponding anodes by the associated network. When power is being transmitted from N1 to N2, rectifiers G1<SP>1> and G2<SP>1> do not function but rectified A.C. is supplied by C1<SP>11> to G2<SP>11> which acts as an inverter and feeds three-phase A.C: to the' network N2. Similarly when power flows from N2 to N1 the current flow is through rectifiers G2<SP>1> and G1<SP>1>. In a modification, rectifiers G1<SP>1>, G2<SP>11> -are replaced by a single rectifier having twelve anodes and control grids and rectifiers G1<SP>11>, G2<SP>1> by a single rectifier-having twelve anodes. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the modification, shown in Fig. 3 (Cancelled), in which, associated with the networks N1, N2 are rectifiers G1, G2 having control grids, the energization of which are controlled' by a synchroscope S connected between the networks. When the condition of the networks is such that power should flow from N1 to N2 the synchroscope S opens the switch A and closes B ; rectifier A.C. is supplied by G1 to G2 which acts as an inverter and feeds A.C. to the network N2. Similarly when power flows from N 2 to N1 rectifier G2 is decontrolled and G1 is controlled. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
