[Class 40 (iii).] Optical sound-reproducing apparatus, also applicable to copying-telegraphy,. comprises a light source a, a lens system f, g, h for directing a light beam on to a non-transparent record film e, and a light-sensitive cell arranged in the path of the reflected beam. The light source a, which may be an arc lamp, is adapted to cooperate with a condenser b and diaphragm d having an aperture of circular or slit form. The selenium cell may be mounted above the lens f or between the lenses f, g or lenses g, h. The cell may be of the following shapes : (1) semi-circular so as to be employed at i, i<1>, or ill, Fig. 2 ; (2) circular to co-operate with a prism arranged in the path of the reflected beam ; or (3) flat ring or truncated cone n, Fig. 3. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 6, the cell q is in the form of a half-cone and may co-operate with a cell q<1> corresponding to half the cell n, Fig. 3. Alternatively, the cells q, q<1> may be of flat type.
