Abstract

370,422. Optical sound-reproducing apparatus. WHITE, A. E., 5, Quality Court, Chancery Lane, London.-(Radio Corporation of America; 233, Broadway, New York, U.S.A.) Jan. 6, 1931, No. 506. [Class 40 (ii).] In sound reproducing apparatus in which light is reflected from a film record on to a photo-electric ceU, a mirror M is provided to reflectlight from a source L on to the film F, and has an aperture S therein, through which a portion of the light, after reflection from the record, passes to the cell V. The film passes around a drum D, adjacent to which is an end of a tube T in which the parts of the reproducing system, including lenses C, O, are mounted. Light reflected from the record retraces the path of the incident rays, and a portion only passes through the slit S on to the cell. The remainder of the reflected light is picked up by a mirror R<1> and augments the light originally emitted by the source. The drum D may be highly polished, or reflection of the light may take place from the emulsion of the film itself.
