Abstract

323,039. Cottnam, R. Sept. 17, 1928. Optical records and apparatus.-Sounds are recorded continuously on intermittently moving combined sound and kinematograph films by means of a continuously-rotating cylindrical distributor C which contacts with the film A and is provided with an incandescent lamp D and a series of spirally-arranged slits F on its peripheral surface. A continuously-rotating pinion G rotates the cylinder C through gears H and also the usual Maltese cross I or equivalent mechanism for moving the film intermittently. The aperture X, where the film A contacts with the cylinder C, is disposed below the kinematograph aperture E and the sounds are recorded on the margin A<2> of the film, as shown in Fig. 6. In reproduction, the cylinder C is employed and light passing through the slits F acts on a photoelectric cell in a loud-speaker circuit. Specification 253,226 is referred to.
