Abstract
387,662. Printing sound-records on films. MIHALY, D. VON, 13B, Hildegardstrasse, Wilmersdorf, Berlin. May 6, 1931, No. 13438. Convention date, May 9, 1930. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. [Class 40 (ii),] Sound films, or combined sound and picture films, of small size, are produced from a standard film by optical copying means, which may include devices such as cylindrical lenses for varying the dimensions of the copy in one direction differently from that in another. When the size of the picture copy has not to be changed, this can be copied by contact printing, and the same or separate light sources may be employed for copying the sound and the picture record. The Figure shows apparatus for copying a record or records on a film 2 on to a film 10 by light from a lamp 8 directed through a condensing lens 9 and through the films, a lens 15 between the films being adjustable axially to vary the size of the copy. The film 2 is driven by a sprocket 4 which drives the take-up reel 6 and the film 10 is driven by a sprocket 12 which drives the take-up reel 13. The sprockets 4, 12 are connected by gearing so as to drive the films at the required relative speeds. The films may be driven continuously, or intermittently through steps equal to a picture space, in which case the edges of the light aperture transverse to the films are constructed to damp the illumination.
