Abstract

388,829. Knitting. WILDT & CO., Ltd. and HOLMES, H. H., Adelaide Works, Leicester. Sept. 9, 1931, Nos. 25309/31 and 19329/32. [Class 74 (ii).] A cylinder and dial machine having both long and short butted needles in the cylinder or dial or both, has in combination a circumferentially adjustable stitch cam 55 for the cylinder or dial, and also for the cylinder or dial independently adjustable clearing cams 63, 64, of which the cam 63 operates upon all of the needles, and the cam 64 actuates the long butted needles only. Alternatively the adjustable stitch and clearing cams may be provided in both the cylinder and the dial. Tubular fabric can be made in which a change is made from 1 x 1 to 2 x 2 rib work, and a welt and locking courses are formed. Preferably when knitting 2 X 2 rib work the cylinder and dial stitch cams are approximately coincident, and when knitting 1 x 1 rib work the cylinder and rib stitch cams are displaced circumferentially.
