Abstract

1,236,256. Knitting-machines. O. PALME and F. VATTER [trading as J. H. VATTER NACHF. K.G.] 4 Sept., 1968 [18 Sept., 1967], No. 42062/68. Headings D1C and D1K. The diol cam system at each head of a cylinder and dial machine includes a bolt knitting cam insertable in advance of the usual knitting cam. The cam is depressed to chosen levels by a pattern controlled lever. The system enables dial needles to knock over in advance of cylinder needles and avoid taking yarn fed to the latter. If yarn is fed behind the cylinder needles to those of the dial, two plies will be knitted. A two ply stocking welt may be knitted in this way; the two plies being joined at either end by rib knitting. The plies may be joined in certain wales by low butt needles which raise the bolt cam. The heel area may be rib knit to facilitate shaping by ensuring that the dial needles of the surrounding areas are retracted by the bolt cam to raise the yarn. The sole may be ribbed and include and additional, cotton, yarn.
