Abstract

388,302. Discharge apparatus. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN, 13D, Emmasingel, Eindhoven, Holland. July 28, 1932, No. 21301. Convention date, Aug. 20, 1931. [Class 39 (i).] A luminous electric discharge tube is provided with one or more auxiliary electrodes in the form of wires extending longitudinally of the tube and, at least partly, superficially oxidized. The wires may consist of zirconium or aluminium oxidized electrolytically. In the example the discharge tube 1 is provided with incandescent cathodes 3 consisting of helically wound wires, and two auxiliary electrodes 4 extending in the longitudinal direction of the tube and connected to one another at their inner ends by an insulating tube 5 of porcelain, their outer ends being extended out through pinches 6. The tube may contain a filling of a rare gas at a pressure of about 8 m.m. of mercury, or the filling may consist of a vapour or a mixture of gas and vapour. In a modification the tube contains two cylindrical cold electrodes, with an auxiliary electrode in the form of a superficially oxidized metal rod extending from one electrode nearly to the other.
