Abstract

A solid emulsifying-composition for bitumen, especially suitable for addition to bitumen employed in road construction to produce an emulsion in wet weather, comprises saponified resin or saponified wax, or mixtures thereof, and a binding agent such as tar or asphalt pitch; a filling material such as kieselguhr may also be added. Examp;e:--35 parts of colophony, 10 parts of montan wax, 25 parts of concentrated soda-potash lye, and 20 parts of kieselguhr, are mixed with heating, and 30 parts of tar are admixed therewith while hot. The resulting composition, which is solid when cold, may be added to 13,5-20 times its weight of bitumen during heating and water, (25-40 per cent of the mixture), stirred in.
