Abstract
387,664. Directive wireless signalling. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN, 13D, Em. masingel, Eindhoven, Holland. May 6, 1931, No. 13453. Convention date, May 26, 1930. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. Drawings to Specification. [Class 40 (v).] To secure a definite field-strength at a given distance with a minimum expenditure of power, the spacing d of a directional array of aerials is determined by the formula d=<n>/n+1# where n is the number of separate aerials and # the wave-length. For broadside radiation, each aerial should be fed in phase, and the optimum spacing is co-ordinated with the electrical spacing (which must be one or more whole wavelengths) by inserting loading-impedances in the feed-lines, or by bending or coiling the lines. For end-on radiation the spacing between two aerials, or in-phase rows, is <7>/12 # with a phasedifference of 230‹. The current-amplitude should preferably be greater at the centre of a row of aerials than at the two ends.
