Abstract

1,247,546. Aerials. DECCA Ltd. 9 Dec., 1969 [19 Dec., 1968], No. 60469/68. Heading H4A. An aerial comprises a triplate transmission line consisting of two outer planar conductors and an inner conductor 13, Fig. 1. The region between the outer conductors contains a suitable dielectric material, and the uppermost of said outer conductors includes a plurality of regularly spaced transverse radiating slots 15. The relative disposition between the conductor 13 and a slot varies along the length of the line, that is, the distance between said conductor and a plane normal to the slots, and passing through their centres, varies monotonically from a maximum to a minimum along the line. The coupling between the line and the slots can thus be arranged to achieve a selected distribution along the line of the power radiated by each slot, for example, so that side lobes are minimized. The outer plates are joined by rivets 16 which provide rigidity and prevent unwanted modes propagating along the line. Other forms of planar transmission line than the triplate type may be used, or a coaxial line.
