387,580. Labelling-machines. SCHWEIZERISCHE INDUSTRIE-GES., Neuhausen, Schaffhausen, Switzerland. June 22; 1932, No. 17663. Convention date, July 31, 1931. [Class 73.] A machine for applying labels to packages comprises rocking means for separating a label from a pile and carrying it past an adhesive roller to a position in front of a package to which it is applied by a device which first presses one side and then the whole label. In the form shown, the labels 1, resting horizontally in a pile, are fed by a suction feed 2 to grippers 6 carried on an arm 7<1> which is rocked to carry the separated label past a gumming roll 3 to a position in front of a package 5. The label is applied by a pressing device 30 having a spring projection 31 which engages the label in advance of the device. The grippers 6 are operated by cams 20, 32 carried by arms 17, 18. In another form, the label is transferred by arms on a shaft which has both rocking and longitudinal movements.
