Sheet-carriers; grippers and gripper mechanism.-Gripper mechanism for use on a travelling chain, belt, &c. for conveying wrappers, labels, or other sheets coated with glue &c., for wrapping or covering boxes, cans, packages, &c., comprises two relatively movable members, one of which is freely rotatable or otherwise movable, by frictional contact with the sheets, to present different portions of its surface to successive sheets. As applied to a chain, the gripper unit consists of an edged disc or wheel 34 freely mounted on a stud 35 on a bracket 26 secured by spring clips on two chain link pins 28, in place of a side link, and a co-operating member 33 pivoted on one of the pins 28 and having a plane horizontal surface for receiving the sheet. The member 33 is provided with an arm 30 engaged by a spring 31 seated in a recess in the bracket 26, and another arm 32 projecting above the chain for engagement with cam members for moving the member 33 relatively to the member 34, against the returning action of the spring 31, to receive and deliver the sheet. The advanced edge of the sheet is stopped by the vertical portions of the grippers.
