[Class 94 (i).] In apparatus for feeding cigarettes from a reservoir and arranging them in vertical rows therebelow, the cigarettes passing through an opening in the reservoir base into a channel, one or more rollers, preferably roughened, grooved or the like are arranged above the said opening and in a tapered portion of the reservoir, and is or are adapted to be turned to and fro intermittently to prevent bridging or the formation of an arch. As shown, a grooved roller 14 is loosely mounted on an axle 15, on which is secured one end of a lever 16 the other end of which is normally held against a stationary stop 20 by a spring 19. The lever 16 carries a pin 18 which engages a slot 17<1> in a link 17 connected to one end of a lever 6, the other end of which is pivoted at 7. A link 8 is connected to the free end of the lever 6 and to a lever 9 which is pivoted at 10 and has a roller 11 engaging a cam disc 13. When the disc 13 moves in the direction of the arrow the roller 14 turns clockwise. As the disc continues to rotate the roller moves anticlockwise. The channel is divided by a stationary wall 3 and walls 2 which are each in two parts and are vertically reciprocated by the disc 13 via a link 5<1> articulated to the lever 6 and a member 4 sliding vertically on rods 5. A recess 141 in the roller 14 accommodates pushed-up cigarettes and prevents their being crushed. A cigarette-diverting plate 21 is arranged over the roller.
