[Class 130] In a tobacco. feeding device for cigarette - making machines having two brushing rollers 9, 13, arranged in series adjacent the feeding roller 2, the distance of the first brushing roller 13 from the feeding roller is adjusted in accordance with the positionof members 46 which rest on the tobacco between the brushing rollers, in order to regulate the feed. The roller 13 is adjusted by a worm 15 and cranked lever 12 from a ratchet 25 and gearing 21, or from a ratchet 26 and gearing 22. Rods 29, 29a carrying the ratchet pawls 27, 28 are reciprocated by a cam 37, levers 34, 33 and 32, and a spring 31. Stops 51, 51<a> on a lever 40 carrying the members 46 limit the stroke of the rods so that neither ratchet is actuated when the tobacco level is normal. When the tobacco level rises, the stop 51 is moved out of the path of the rod 29, which actuates the gearing to move the roller 13 away from the roller 2. Conversely the roller 13 is moved towards the roller 2 at a low tobacco level. The members 46 are reciprocated out of phase with the rods by an eccentric disc 39, so that they are not covered by tobacco.
