Confectionery. - A machine for making chocolate cigarettes which consist of bars of chocolate within paper tubes, comprises a rotary drum 18 having peripheral recesses 19 which take chocolate rods K from a hopper 13, a similar drum 4 which receives lengths of paper tube 4 which are cut by shears 2 from a length 1; and a reciprocating rammer 27 which pushes the chocolate rods independently through a guide 35 and an annular cutting die 36 into the paper tube aligned therewith, the rod being finally guided into the tube by a device 37 comprising spring tongues 45 carried by an annular plate, the .device 37 being reciprocated along a guide 40 by a cam 42 and a rocking-lever 41 whereby the tongues 45 are inserted into and withdrawn from the tube being filled. The rammer 27 is carried by a slider 28 on a guide rod 29, the slider being operated by a crank 31 and connecting-rod 30. The drum 4 is rotated intermittently and the drum 18 is similarlv rotated by a cam 21, rod 20 and ratchet 26. A positively operated roller 15 prevents the rods K from jamming in the mouth of the hopper 13. An abutment plate 43 prevents longitudinal movement of the tubes during the filling, the tubes being also held by a finger 5 on a rocking. lever 6 operated by the cam 8 through a connecting-rod 7 and the filled tubes are retained in the recesses 4 by a curved plate until they are released and fall upon a discharge conveyer.
