Abstract

384,910. Controlling change-speed gearing ; operating clutches. GMEINDER & CO., GES., Mosbach, Baden, Germany. June 1, 1932, No. 15497. Convention date, June 20, 1931. [Class 80 (ii).] Friction clutches such as A, B, B<1>, Fig. 4, in change-speed gearing are operated separately by linkages in each of which is a spring C which is initially tensioned to the degree for engaging the clutch, so that a small displacement of an actuating member w is sufficient. The three balls w shown are operated selectively by a ramp v which travels on a hand-operated screw u. Each ball w rests on a slidable casing f which envelops one of the springs C and is closed by a cap f<2>. Between each spring C and cap f<2> is a head T upon a rod f<3> through which, and through a lever r, thrust is transmitted to engage the selected clutch. When a ball w is depressed, a counter-abutment cap f<2> moves away from under one abutment T of the spring so that the full operative pressure is transmitted from the other abutment, the top end of the casing f, to the clutch lever r. In a form shown in Fig. 2, manual thrust is applied to a rod g and is passed on to a shaft k operating two clutches by a box f containing two springs D, E initially compressed. Each spring abuts at one end against an end of the box and at the other against one of two washers f between which is a counter-abutment f<2> on the box and also a head g<1> on the rod g. If the rod g is displaced a short distance to the right, the head g<1> pushes the right washer f<1> away from the counter.abutment f<2> so that the full thrust of the spring E is transmitted to the box, the spring D remaining inoperative.
