[Class 12 (iii).] In a lubricating device wherein a constant level of oil is maintained in a chamber 13, connected by pipes 7 to wells 8 in the bearings of an electric traction motor, by supply on the bird-fountain principle from an airtight chamber 12 above the chamber 13, which latter communicates with the atmosphere through an overflow 14, the enlarged tubular end 20 of the level-controlling vent pipe 19 depends into the oil, an inverted bell 21 being arranged within the end 20 so that its lower edge is located at the required oil level, and the interior of the bell being in communication with the air space in the chamber 13 through tubes 23, the ends of which may be turned down to terminate at the required level. Alternatively, the bell 21 may depend into the oil, holes or slots being formed in its wall at the required level. An upper chamber 11, fitted with a filling cap 10, is also provided. Conduits 15, 17, 18 lead from the bottom of the chambers 12, 13, 11 respectively to a threeway cock 16 which normally puts the chambers 12, 13 into communication. By moving the cock, however, the chamber 12 can be put into communication, for replenishment purposes, with the chamber 11, or the latter can be put into communication with the chamber 13.
