Abstract
383,652. Mattresses ; bedstead adjustments. MARSDEN, A. and MARSDEN, G. R., 42, East Avenue, Benton, Northumberland. July 3, 1931, No. 19245. [Classes 52 (ii) and 52 (iv).] A mattress is provided with a hinged end portion c, Fig. 3, which is raised by a pair of struts h<1>, the lower ends of which are attached to travelling nuts g or similar devices, operated by worms e. Each strut h<1> may be pivoted at h<2> to the mattress frame a and to a nut g, the upper end of the strut sliding against the lower side of the frame c, or the strut may be pivoted at either end to the nut g and to the frame c, or the lower end of the strut may be attached to a pivoted quadrant which engages the worm e. The worms e on either side of the mattress frame are rotated together through bevel gearing n and a transverse shaft m. In the modification shown in Fig. 5, the struts v are pivoted to nuts u threaded on right- and left-hand screws s, t.
