L., Myrtle Cottage, Kell's Lane, Low Fell, Gateshead-on-Tyne, and FORTH ENGINE & MOTOR WORKS, (NEWCASTLE - UPON - TYNE), Ltd., Dottery Lane, Newcastle-on-Tyne. Nov. 17, 1931, No. 31797. [Class 86.] Apparatus for supplying measured quantities of hot melted material to mixing machines, e.g. bitumen to aggregates for road making, comprises a measuring tank connected by a valved pipe to a secondary tank from which the material is forced by hot pressure air to spraying nozzles in the mixing chamber ; the nozzles are also supplied with hot pressure air. The measuring tank a, Fig. 1, which may be jacketed and furnished with a hot air pipe a<2>, is supplied with melted material through a pipe b, an adjustable gauge c being provided. The tank is connected by means of a valved pipe d to the secondary tank f, from which the material is ejected, after the valve e has been closed, by hot air admitted through a pipe g. The spraying nozzles comprise a chamber k, Fig. 3, to which the melted material is led, and an inner chamber m supplied with hot air which escapes between the conical end p of a spindle p<1> and the end of a sleeve n. The sleeve is coned and furnished with fins n<4> fitting into the end of the chamber k. The escaping air entrains melted material which is further broken up by air jets issuing from holes r<3> in a chamber r.
