Abstract
383,352. Inductances. BRANCH, L. E. T., 15, The Crescent, Ilford, Essex. Sept. 18, 1931, No. 26201. [Class 37.] The coils of a multiwave-range band-pass filter are provided with a screen so arranged as to lower the mutual inductance between the coils for use on the lower wave-ranges to a greater extent than that between the coils for use on the higher wave-ranges. In the construction shown in Fig. 1. two cylindrical formers a, a<1> are mounted in a metallic screening- box b with their axes parallel, and carry singlelayer windings m, m<1> for medium waves and pile-wound windings l, l<1> for long waves. A switch s is arranged to short-circuit the coils l, 1<1> for the medium wave-band, the connections being shown in Fig. 2. A sheet-metal screen p is inserted midway between the axes of the coils m, ml with its plane at right-angles to that containing the axes of the coils and extending across the width of the box b so as to reduce the mutual inductance between the windings m. m<1> to a greater extent than it reduces that between the windings l, l<1>. In a modification, Fig. 3, the long-wave coils l<2>, l<3> are arranged with their axes in the same straight line, the medium-wave windings m<2>, m<3> having their common axis parallel with that of the coils l<2>, l<3>. A metal sheet p<1> is positioned midway between the coils m<2>, m<3> with its plane at right-angles to their axis. Short-circuited turns p<2> may be arranged midway between the coils 12, 13.
