Abstract
383,316. Screw propellers. DENNY & BROS., Ltd., W., Leven Ship Yard, and ALLAN, J. F., Willieslea, Bonhill Road, both in Dumbarton. Aug. 7, 1931, No. 22436. Drawings to Specification. [Class 114.] The thickness of a screw propeller blade is less than one-tenth of the chord at a radius equal to the advance per revolution divided by 5À75 or at 40 per cent of the propeller radius whichever is the greater and not less than three-hundredths of the chord near the blade tip, and the pitch of the blade is such that the angle of attack is a maximum between the above radius and 60 per cent of the propeller radius. The angle of attack diminishes from the maximum toward the tip to two-thirds or one-half the maximum value. Two such propellers may be fitted to a shaft of which the leading propeller absorbs two-thirds and following propeller one-third of the shaft horsepower.
