Abstract

381,673. Tennis &c rackets. ACCLES & POLLOCK, Ltd. and HACKETT, W. W., Paddock Works, Rounds Green, Oldbury, near Birmingham. Aug. 28, 1931, No. 24181. [Class 132 (ii).] A tennis, badminton, &c. racket is provided with a frame consisting of a tube, the crosssectional area of which gradually decreases from the throat a<6> to the tip a<4>. The ends a<1> of the tube form the handle. The throat may consist of a tube welded in position or of a flanged or channelled bracket of triangular shape placed between the parts a<2>. The frame and handle may consist of a single length of tubing or of two pieces joined together at a<4>. A liner may be inserted to strengthen the junction. The throat piece may be beaded at b5 to allow for contraction of the frame. Fig. 3 shows a modification in which the frame is tapered in steps in order to obtain the reduction in cross section. The tubing of the handle may be of uniform or tapering section or, according to the Provisional Specification, of D-shape with the two flat faces in contact. The Provisional Specification also states that a wood handle may be placed over the metal handle for gripping purposes.
