Abstract

427,717. Golf clubs. HEYES, W., 9, Princess Avenue, Sedgley Park, Manchester. July 20, 1933, No. 20434. [Class 132 (ii)] A tubular steel golf club shaft 7 is made with its maximum diameter at 4 immediately below the lower end of the handle portion 5. The shaft tapers uniformly from 4 to the end to which the head is attached and the handle portion 5 is of uniform diameter substantially less than the diameter of the shaft at 4. This construction enables a large quantity of shock-absorbing material to be used on the handle portion. The shaft shown in Fig. 1 is in one piece, the reduction in diameter at 5 being made by rolling or drawing. In the constructions shown in Figs. 2 and 3 the shaft is in two parts secured together by brazing, welding or pegging, the lower end of the handle portion 5 being inserted into the upper end of the shaft portion 7 in Fig. 2, and being enlarged and fitted on the upper end of the shaft portion 7 in Fig. 3. According to the Provisional Specification the handle portion may be slotted, multifurcated and/or stepped, and the shaft may be constructed by joining together a bamboo handle to a steel shaft. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 24144/11, 325,677, [both in Class 132 (ii)], and 404,995.
