Abstract

381,403. Breaking-pieces for relieving strain. KAUERMANN GES., 4, Elberfelderstrasse, Dusseldorf, Germany. Dec. 18, 1931, No. 35151. Convention date, Dec. 19, 1930. [Class 80 (iv).] In shaft couplings for rolling-mills &c., there are combined in the one coupling two safety devices, one responsive to torque overload and the other to excessive axial thrust, one coupling- element being common to the two devices. A driving-member a<1> is connected by a known type of elastic coupling to a driven member in two parts a, b connected by shearable pins f, the part b being fast on the driven shaft c. If the shaft c should fracture obliquely, the resultant end thrust tends to open and finally to fracture a ring e, preferably in two connected parts, mounted on a coned part d of the member b and abutting against the member a, so that the shaft c and member b can move to the left, as shown in broken lines, and slide the part b from the pins f.
