381,167. Gas burners. METROPOLITAN FUEL CO., Ltd., 43, Johnson Street, Horseferry Road, and COX, F. J., Fernbank, Carleton Road, Tufnell Park, both in London. May 28, 1931, No. 15654. [Class 75 (i).] In an atmospheric gas burner in which one or more elongated combustion chambers a<1> are provided in a block a below an outlet slot extending to the outer surface a<2> so that the latter is heated preferably to incandescence, the sides of each slot a<3> consist of a series of undulations forming projections a<5> extending immediately over holes a<4> communicating with a mixing-chamber in the lower part of a supporting casing b. The block a, or only the outer layer thereof, is made of refractory material. The corners of the undulations may be angular, preferably right-angles or slightly larger, and the projections may extend above, or be flush with, the surface a<2>. The holes a4 may be formed in strip members with or without reduced portions extending into the combustion chambers. A baffle b<4> with or without perforations is fitted over the inlet b<3>. The block may be built up of strips of refractory material cemented together either directly, or with the intervention of an intermediate member containing the holes a<4>. Cuts a<6> may be provided to allow for expansion and prevent cracking of the refractory material.
