Abstract

379,897. Snap-action switches. WILLETT, E. V. A., The Erf, Dersingham, King's Lynn, Norfolk. Oct. 19, 1931, No. 28964. [Class 38 (v).] A multi-way switch suitable for controlling a direction indicator on an automobile comprises an insulating body portion 1 in which is mounted for universal movement an operating lever 7, which moves from a central position in four radial slots in the body portion 1. Attached to the member 1 is a cup-shaped insulating member 20 which carries four fixed spring contacts such as 29c held in position by terminals which project from the rear of the switch. A four-armed contact 23 is mounted centrally by means of a terminal 22 so that when the operating lever is moved from the central zero position one of the arms of the contact 23 is pressed into engagement with one of the fixed contacts to give an appropriate signal. The operating lever is held in its operative positions by spring tongues 16 on a disc attached to the body of the switch, which press on the sides of a conical enlargement 10 of the operating lever. These spring tongues. hold the switch in its central position by pressing on the flat portion 11.
