Abstract
632,715. Snap-action switches. O'SHEI, W. E. May 29, 1947, No. 14346. [Class 38 (v)] A double-throw vehicle traffic indicator switch comprises an operating arm 12 having extensions 11 which receive by means of hexagonal apertures a hexagonal sleeve 7 rotatable on a spindle 8. Mounted for rotation with the sleeve 7 are insulating members 1 and a metal plate 2 positioned between them and supported on an insulating part 10. Spring contacts 4, 4a normally engage projections 3, 3a on the members 1 and hold the arm 12 in the central " off " position. Movement of the arm 12 to one side rotates the plate 2 to bridge a contact 4 or 4a and a spring plunger contact 13, and the respective projection 3 or 3a locates the switch in this position by engaging the V-shaped end of its associated spring contact 4 or 4a. The arm 12 is operated by a handle 21 having a translucent cover 22 and enclosing a bulb 20, the arrangement being as disclosed in Specification 624,508. A circuit is established to illuminate the bulb, when the switch is in either of its operative positions, by means of a spring 26 pressing between the plate 2 and a metal disc 25 connected to the bulb through an insulated conductor 27, the return being through the earthed casing 15. In an alternative construction, the spindle 8 may be operated by a rotary handle attached to it.
