Abstract
377,754. Hypodermic syringes. EVERETT, S. J., 939, London Road, Thornton Heath, Surrey. May 4, 1931, No. 13124. [Class 81 (ii).] A hypodermic syringe, for use with an interchangeable needle embedded over a substantial length in a mounting composed of a neck and a head portion, comprises a nozzle and a clamping device having a lateral aperture, for insertion of the mounting and needle laterally without passing the point through a bore, and a seating for the head portion of the mounting which is pressed by said device into liquid-tight engagement with the nozzle. The needle 1 is provided with a head 2 and neck 3 as described in Specification 377,891. A nipple 5 has a circular orifice 10 and slot 11 which pass the head and neck respectively, the needle then being moved longitudinally so that the head enters the cavity 4, its conical upper portion 8 being clamped against the nozzle 6 when the nipple is screwed thereon. The end of the nozzle may be conically recessed, and the portion 8 of the needle provided with a facing or washer of particularly soft metal. When applied to a double-ended needle for use with a cartridge or phial syringe, the nipple 5, nozzle 6, and lower part of the syringe body are slotted to allow the insertion of the upper part of the needle. The head and neck, and consequently the aperture 10, 11 and cavity 4, may be modified in shape. The nipple 5 may be attached to the nozzle by any known method, for example by a bayonet connection, or by cam means on the syringe engaging the nipple. Fig. 6 shows an arrangement of the latter type, wherein a stirrup shaped member 25 has its inturned ends 26 passing through slots 30 in the nipple 5<1> and pivoted in the nozzle 6. After inserting the needle, the member 25 is raised, thereby raising the nipple by engaging under the annular abutment 28. Specification 255,953, [Class 81 (ii), Medical &c. appliances], also is referred to.
