Abstract

377,891. Hypodermic needles. EVERETT, S. J.. 939, London Road, Thornton Heath, Surrey. May 4, 1931, No. 322/32. Divided on 377,754. [Class 81 (ii).] An interchangeable hypodermic needle is embedded over a substantial length in a mounting consisting of an elongated neck portion and a head portion, said head portion presenting a seating face for abutting against the syringe nozzle, and a shoulder or abutment for facilitating attachment of the needle to the syringe. The mounting, comprising a head portion 2 and neck 3, is of plastic metal such as pewter attached to the needle 1 as by die casting or pressing. The bead has a bevelled shoulder 7 which lodges in the lower part of the cavity 4 in a nipple 5 screwing on to the nozzle 6 and provided with a lateral aperture for inserting the needle; as described in Specification 377,754. The portion 8 of the head abutting the nozzle is conical, while a flaring passage 12 connects the cannula of the needle and the nozzle bore 13. The nozzle 6 may be integral with the syringe. For use with a cartridge or phial syringe, a double ended needle is provided with a mounting 2, 3 intermediate of its ends, the syringe body and nozzle being slotted as described in the above-mentioned Specification. The shape of the head and neck 2, 3 may be modified. The top of the head 2 may be flat, the needle extending therethrough and projecting into the nozzle bore 13. With such plastic metal mountings, the needle can be bent in the neck, a liquidtight joint being maintained even if breakage occurs. If such bending is not essential, the mounting may be of harder metal, such as brass, faced, at the end abutting the nozzle, with a plastic metal such as pewter. The head portion of a plastic metal mounting may be encased, except at its upper abutting surface, in a shell of harder metal. Specification 255,953, [Class 81 (ii), Medical &c. appliances], also is referred to.
