Abstract

354,767. Hypodermic needles. EVERETT, S. J., 939, London Road, Thornton Heath, Surrey. May 13, 1930, Nos. 14739 and 32908. [Class 81 (ii).] The attachment of a hypodermic needle to a mount is effected by resiliently supporting the needle d in the bore c of a perforated die a, and uniting therewith a perforated blank h, preferablv of soft metal such as pewter by the pressing operation of a plunger j, the blank being supported by the die and conforming to the shape of the cavity. The needle is held at its lower end by a blade spring e and descends to its correct position on engagement by the plunger, thus rendering initial positioning of the needle in the die unnecessary. The plunger is preferably of taper form, so that the interior of the mount may be readily fitted on to a syringe with a liquid-tight joint, and the conical centre of the mount facilitates the introduction of a wire into the needle for cleaning purposes, The top end of the needle is roughened or screw-threaded, and the interior wall of the cavity b may be grooved to produce a knurled surface on the moulded mount. In the modification shown in Fig. 4, the mount is formed to the desired cup-shape from sheet metal such as copper or brass before :it is united to the needle, and on depression of the plunger, the conical end m<2> of the mount enters the flared mouth n of the bore and a part is forced into the narrow bore c<1>.
