Abstract
219,365. Branfoot, G. S. March 26, 1923. Ash-trays provided with a relatively low central platform are designed so that the distance between the latter and the outer rim is greater than half the length of a cigarette, so that a cigarette, supported partly on the platform and partly on the rim does not fall out of the tray when it burns short. The trays may be adapted to rest one within the other and the central platform may be fixed or detachable. In the form shown in Fig. 5, the hollow tapered platform k<1> is held friction-tight by a raised portion l. Alternatively, the raised portion at the bottom of the tray may be screw-threaded to engage the internal screwthread of the platform. A bayonet joint may also be used to attach the platform to the tray, or the platform may be hinged as at v, Fig. 8. a central well q being formed by the platform u having a central perforation. In the tray shown in Fig. 9, to prevent cigarettes being placed on the rims near the platform, raised portions 5 are formed. The platform may also comprise a piece of ribbed rectangularly bent metal which is sprung into a recess formed at the bottom of the tray by ribs 8, Fig. 11.
