Abstract

336,069. Goldstein, A. A. Sept. 9, 1929, Disinfecting. - A sterilizing case for a hypodermic syringe or other small clinical instrument comprises a tube 1 closed at one end by a screw cap 7 and at the other by a reservoir 6. An inner tube 9 sliding in a reduced portion 10 of the bore of the tube. 1 is normally pressed upwards by a spring 12 and is formed at its top with a seating to engage a bevelled portion 16 of a syringe 17, and at its lower end with a flange 13 to engages a valve seat 3 at the base of the tube 1. The flange 13 is preferably formed on a threaded cap 14. The tube 9 is formed with holes 15 above the cap 14. When the syringe is in place and the case closed, as in Fig. 2, sterilizing liquid enters the tube 9 and surrounds the needle and lower part of the syringe but cannot escape into the upper part of the case. On withdrawing the syringe the tube 9 is forced upwards by the spring 12, as in Fig. 3, so that the flange 13 closes the liquid reservoir 6. The liquid remaining in the hollow cap 14 is used for cleansing the skin prior to insertion of the needle.
