Abstract
376,767. Hydraulic brakes ; transmitting-mechanism. BENDIX-PERROT BRAKES, Ltd. and CLARK, H., Kings Road, Tyseley, Birmingham. April 14, 1931, No. 10962. [Class 103 (i).] In vehicle brake-operating mechanism in which pressure applied through a pedal b or the like to fluid in a master cylinder a is transmitted hydraulically to operating cylinders d located on opposite sides of the vehicle frame and then mechanically to the brake shoes, each cylinder d contains two opposed pistons between which fluid is forced and the pistons act through rocking levers g on cables j, k or rods connected to the front and rear wheel brakes. Different pressures on the front and rear brakes may be obtained by having opposed pistons of different diameters or by employing levers g of different lengths. In the event of failure of the hydraulic system the brakes on the front or rear wheels, or on both, may be applied by a hand-lever m or the like carrying a pivoted link p having a pin- and-slot connection with a bell-crank q connected by a slotted coupling r to one of the levers g. In a modification of this mechanical brakeoperating means the levers g by which the rear brakes are operated are freely mounted on the ends of a transverse shaft, each lever being engaged by a projection on the shaft when the shaft is rotated by the hand-lever.
