Abstract
376,527. Grab-buckets. DYGGVE, E. V. P., 50, H. C. Lumbyesgade, Copenhagen. Aug. 12, 1931, No. 22782. [Class 78 (iv).] The buckets are pivoted at 2 on a rigid frame 1, Fig. 1, or on the lower member 25 of a linked frame 25, 26, Fig. 8, and the bucket arms are connected by links 12 with the lower block 6 which is constrained to move in the vertical axis of the grab without the use of rigid guides on the frame. In one arrangement, toothed sectors 10 on the bucket arms 3, Fig. 2, mesh with interengaging gear wheels 15 which are mounted on spindles 14 in the block 6, and the links 12 which connect the arms 3 with the block are provided with interengaging sectors 11. As shown in Fig. 3, the gearing 10, 15 is replaced by links 19 connecting the bucket arms with a block 17 moving in guides in the block 6, or in a modification, Fig. 5 (not shown), by links 19 connected with opposite ends of a lever pivoted in the block 6. In another modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), the links 12 of Fig. 3 are connected to a common pivot on the block 6, and the sectors 11 are replaced by links extending from intermediate points on the links 12 to a second slide such as 17. In another modification, Fig. 6 (not shown), the gearing 10, 15, Fig. 2, is replaced by a plate on the block 6 slotted to receive and guide pins on the bucket arms ; or pins on the block may be guided in slotted plates on the bucket arms ; and the links 12 may be connected to a common pivot and the sectors 11 dispensed with. As shown in Fig. 7, the links 12 are connected to a common pivot 14, and one of them is also connected by a link 34 to a pin 35 on the frame 1 situated so that the pivot 14 moves in a substantially straight path 40. The links 12 may be connected to separate pivots 14 and provided with interengaging teeth as in Fig. 2. As shown in Fig. 8, frame links 26 pivoted to the grab-head at 28 have interengaging teeth, and are connected at 27 with the buckets, while the buckets are connected at 2 with a lower frame link 25, giving a better digging and opening action and increasing the travel of the closing rope owing to the movement of the grab-head towards the buckets in closing. Intermediate gears are provided between the sectors 10 and the gears 15. In modifications not illustrated, the block 6 may be connected with the grab-head by a differential drum, or by a motor and gearing, instead of pulley-tackle.
