376,502. Vehicle suspension systems. DAIMLER-BENZ AKT.-GES., Unterturkheim, Stuttgart, Germany. July 14, 1931, No. 20203. Convention date, July 14, 1930. [Class 108 (ii).] Helical suspension springs unguided or unsupported at any intermediate point are used in connection with swinging half axles or with radius arms pivoted to the frame about a transverse axis. In the construction shown in Figs. 1, 2, and 3, each road wheel is carried on the end of a swinging half axle 4 connected by a longitudinal pivot 3 to a gear box 2 secured to the main frame 1. Two helical springs 5 are connected at their ends to brackets on the main frame and to the axles 4 by shaped clamping plates 9 each secured by a central bolt 10 to the spring seat. Pins 11 prevent rotation of the plate 9. The plates preferably engage end coils 8 of smaller diameter than the other coils.
