Abstract

375,984. Air port landing &c. lamps. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. and VILLIERS, W. A., Magnet House, Kingsway, London. June 18, 1931, No. 17705. [Classes 75 (iii) and 75 (iv).] An air port landing light or like lighting device for throwing a sheet of light to a distance laterally comprises a framework on which are arranged one or more horizontal rows of trough-shaped reflectors having lamps arranged along or substantially along their focal axes. The reflectors are preferably parabolic in cross section and the lamps may be tubular electric incandescent bulbs or luminous electric discharge tubes. In the form shown, each of three rows consists of three trough-shaped glass reflectors 3 arranged end to end in a box 4 and fitted with vertically and horizontally adjustable lamp holders (not shown), baffle-plates 6 and removable watertight glass covers 5. The boxes are fitted with doors 7 to give access to switches for incandescent bulbs or auxiliary apparatus for discharge tubes. Each box 4 is mounted on pivots 8 on a tubular framework 2 and is provided with a circular slot 19 engaged by a member 12, a clamp 14 allowing each box to be rotated independently. The members 12 are pivoted at 13 to a rod 10 the end of which engages a slot 11 in a slotted lever 9 adapted to rotate all the boxes simultaneously. The framework 2 is mounted on a turntable 15 having wheels 16 engaging a circular track 17 and is locked in position by means of a clamp 18. A modified construction is described and illustrated in the Specification.
