Abstract

375,645. Cigar - making machines. TRIGGS, W. W., 57, Lincoln's Inn Fields, London.-(International Cigar Machinery Co. ; 5520, 2nd Avenue, Brooklyn, New York, U.S.A.) Oct. 9, 1931, No. 28065. [Class 130.] In a tobacco-feeding channel formed by a plurality of travelling belts, means are provided, in advance of a compactor member in the channel, for holding down the edges of the tobacco leaves. Feed belts 10, 14 form the tobacco-feeding channel, and stationary ledges 21 on guards 20 project along the sides of the channel to hold down the leaves. The edges of narrow leaves which are not held down by the ledges 21 are guided against an inclined belt 24 running over adjustable pulleys 25, 26. A stripper 42 bears against the belt 24 to prevent tobacco from being lifted out of the channel by the belt 24, and a compactor 44 compresses the tobacco in the channel.
