Abstract
373,989. Jointing tubes to plates. SCOVILL MANUFACTURING CO., Mill Street, Waterbury, Connecticut, U.S.A. Nov. 29, 1930, No. 36071. Convention date, June 4. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. [Class 99 (i).] The end of a tube 10, Fig. 4, is secured in a hole 13 in a plate 12 by providing the wall of the hole with a plurality of disconnected grooves 14, having flat surfaces 15 therebetween, and expanding the tube end within the hole. The outer rim of the hole may be rounded off at 16 and the extreme end of the tube correspondingly flared. The invention may be applied to tube plates having holes already tapped to receive a ferrule and packing by replacing the latter by a bushing 18, Fig. 2, having a grooved inner wall. Specifications 362,660 and 366,481 are referred to.
