Abstract
511,531. Pipe joints. CHOBERT, J. F. G. Feb. 19, 1938, No. 5305. Convention date, Feb. 20, 1937. [Class 99 (i)] [Also in Groups VII, XXII and XXV] A tubular rivet, &c., adapted to be upset by a headed mandrel 4 forced therethrough, to attach together plates 1, 2 or a tube 13 to a plate 1, &c., has a uniform unconstricted bore over the greater part of its length and one or more collars 9 adapted to be expanded during the upsetting operation. The plate 1 may be recessed at 15 or countersunk at the end of the bore therein. In connecting a union 12 to a tube 13 a recessed reinforcing ring 14 is used. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes also an upsetting mechanism comprising two circular anvils, with differential motion, for use in drawing together two plates, either by the upsetting of a rivet, shaped as above set forth, or a plain tubular member. It further sets forth the upsetting of tubular -rivets, &c., of substantially uniform bore but without external collars. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
