Abstract

373,891. Bunch-building motion for ring spinning and doubling frames. HOWARD & BULLOUGH, Ltd. and BOWLER, S., Globe Works, Accrington, Lancashire. Sept. 19, 1931, No. 26245. [Class 120 (ii).] The doffing-quadrant of ring spinning and doubling frames is automatically operated through a lever system and a scroll to impart the necessary motion to the ring rail for winding a bunch of yarn at the base of the pirn prior to the normal building. A scroll 25, driven from the front bottom roller, oscillates through levers and links 28, 33, 34, 42 an arm 38 connected to the shaft of the pinion 40 of the doffing- quadrant 24. Prior to starting, the heart-cam is released by disconnecting a clutch 43 in the driving gear, the clutch lever 44 being maintained in position by a catch 45. The heartcam is set so that the bunch winding is correctly positioned on the bobbin by means of a handle 48 and gearing 47, the engagement of a pawl 51 and cam 49 determining the position. When the bunch is fully wound, the catch 45 is released by an extension 37 on the lever 34, the scroll 25 being designed to give the additional movement for this purpose. The catch 21 which, as usual, engages a stop 20 on the doffing-quadrant during normal building may be held in the disengaged position by a spring catch 56, so that the quadrant may be manually controlled for doffing purposes by the arm 38, which is pivoted to the shaft 39 of the pinion 40 and is moved free from the link 42, as shown in dotted lines, Fig. 7, for this purpose. When the arm 38 is returned to the full line position to engage the link 42 it disengages the catch 56.
