Abstract
355,994. Bunch-building mechanism for ring spinning- frames. RUSHTON, J. L., Kay Street Works, and HILL, H., Tarleton, Hill Cot Road, Astley Bridge, both in Bolton. Oct. 1, 1930, No. 29411. [Class 120 (ii).] In ring spinning - frames wherein a spindle drives a substantially vertical shaft coupled with the building-cam which actuates the ring rail by means of a lever and a system of chains and chain blocks, a bunching-cam is driven from the spindle and connected to one of the chain blocks to traverse the ring rail to wind the bunch, and clutch mechanism is provided automatically disconnecting the bunching-cam and connecting the normal building-cam when a predetermined length of yarn has been wound. The building-motion gearing comprises means for determining the position of the ring rail for the winding of the bunch. The heart-cam of the building-motion is driven through a clutch 33 and worm gearing 12 from a shaft 11, and a cam 30 adapted to oscillate a chain wheel 26 in the building-motion gearing to wind the bunch is driven through a clutch 32 and worm 27 on the shaft 11, the clutch forks 36, 35 being connected by a link 37 so that when one clutch is engaged the other is disengaged. The cam 30 oscillates the chain wheel 26 by means of a lever 47, which is coupled thereto for this purpose by a hand-operated locking-stud 55 and is connected by a link 56 with a measuring-motion adapted to operate an extension 62 of the clutch fork 36. The measuring- motion comprises a ratchet wheel 59 and integral therewith, a gapped disc 61 operated by a pawl 58 connected to the link 56, so that when the desired number of traverses has been wound, a stud on the extension 62 enters the gap 69 and the clutch 32 is disconnected and the clutch 33 connected, the normal building being thereupon started. Adjustment of the measuring-motion is effected by means of a stud 70, which is adjusted in holes 72 and, prior to the winding of the bunch, is set against the edge of a shield 67 for the ratchet. To determine the position of the ring rail for winding the bunch the bevel wheel 16 which actuates the heart cam is provided with a notch 73 to engage a pawl 74 when it is rotated by the operative by means of a spindle 81 to commence a fresh set. The Provisional Specification also describes a measuring-motion for determining the length of the bunch comprising a ratchet and slotted disc connected by a pin and slot constituting a lost motion device and by a spring, so that initially the spring is charged, and when the clutch fork handle is operated to release the pin from the slot in the disc the charged spring rotates the disc slightly, thereby preventing the pin from re-entering the slot when the handle is released. Specification 352,299 is referred to in the Provisional Specification.
