[Class 146 (i).] In visible card indexes having card-holders 1 with slots or notches for the attachment of the cards, the bottom edge of each holder is folded back on itself and secured near its ends by adhesive or other means and one or more of the slots extend to or beyond the fold so that the lower edge of the card is level with the fold and is thus exposed when the holders are mounted in overlapping formation. In one form, Fig. 2, the card 7 is attached to the holder by slots 2, 3, 8, 9, and two of these slots 2, 3 extend to the fold 4 formed by turning up the edge 5 of the holder so that the width of card exposed corresponds to the overlap of the holders. In a modification, the lower edge of the card may be slotted near the centre so as to engage additional slots in the holder. In a further modification, the slots may be perpendicular to the fold 4 and engaging tongues formed on the card by incisions on its side edges. In the form shown in Fig. 10, a single wide slot 18 is cut in the holder and provided with oblique extremities with which the corners of the card are engaged. A central reinforcing tongue 19 may project from the horizontal edge of the slot which causes the card to be bowed outwards slightly and thus gives greater rigidity. The slots such as 2, 3, Fig. 1, may extend symmetrically on both sides of the fold 4 to facilitate the manufacture of the holders.
