Abstract

373,668. Nozzles and valves. TURNER & BRO., Ltd., W. and TURNER, W., Eyre Works, Eyre Lane, Sheffield. March 4, 1931, No. 6647. [Classes 69 (iii) and 135.] A nozzle fitting for hose pipes &c. comprises a casing a, Fig. 2, containing a spring- closed lift valve b opened by a lever c against the action of a spring d<1>. On one side of the casing a is screwed a hose union h while the other is interiorly screwed to receive two inter-changeable outlet nozzles. One of the outlet nozzles comprises means for giving either a diffused spray or a jet while the other comprises a bent tube y, Fig. 3, for filling radiators &c. The nozzle for giving either a diffused spray or a jet comprises a tube j externally threaded to receive a sleeve p carrying a conical nozzle t and closed at the other end by a stuffing-box s. The tube j is closed at n and has lateral holes m leading to a space between the nozzle member and the closed end of the tube j. The closed end of the tube j is provided with helical grooves and in the position shown produces a diffused spray. On screwing the nozzle forward a jet is produced, gauze washers w being provided to prevent swirl.
