373,361. Hats. OVERHILL, A., Surona, Ludlow Avenue, Luton. April 21, 1931, No. 11785. [Class 63.] Stretching in manufacture.-An appliance for stretching a felt or hood over a crown block comprises a substantially annular brim part 2, to the exterior of which the felt or the like is adapted to be secured, a crown block 1 accommodated at one end in the annular brim part and shaped at its other end to the required configuration of crown, and a relatively movable member inside the annular brim part engaging one end of the crown block for forcing the block axially outwards to effect a stretching action on the hat body. A bar 23 secured to the base of the crown block may be engaged by a pair of cranks 22 operated by handles 24 to effect the stretching. To retain the brim portion on the bench, a nose 25 on an arm 26 having a weight 27 at its other end may, normally, engage over the brim portion 2. The arm 26 is pivoted by a pin 28 to a slide 29 adjustable radially of the crown block. In modifications, the block may be moved axially to effect the stretching by a screw and nut or by a footoperated lever.
