Abstract
320,534. Roberts, F., Roberts, L. F., and Roberts, Ltd., F. Oct. 25, 1928. Stretching in manufacture.-A hat or hood stretcher comprises a hollow crown block constructed in two relatively adjustable halves, one 4 of which is fixed to a base 6 and the other 5 slidable thereon away from or toward the fixed half, the halves being lap-jointed for the entire transverse contour of the block. A shaped metal strip may be interposed between the opened block parts to preserve continuity of surface. The block may be heated by steam supplied to a duct 9, or by an electric resistance element 12. The part 5 may be moved by a screw 13, the hat being protected by a sleeve 17. An indicator 18 registers with markings on the base to gauge the head size to which the block is opened. In a modification, the block is expanded by a lever held in adjusted position by ratchet teeth each. of which corresponds to one hat size. The block may be perforated and steam admitted to thehat or hood under treatment.
