Abstract
372,875. Dry cells. SIEMENS BROS. & CO., Ltd., Caxton House, Tothill Street, and RIBER, C. R., 24, Dorville Road, Lee, both in London. March 6, 1931, No. 6996. [Class 53.] Dry cells are sealed by means of a viscous material contained in perforations or pockets in a plate provided above the depolarizing mix. The plate may take the form of a washer having a central hole for the central electrode, and other perforations for the sealing material. In the cell illustrated in the drawings, a cylindrical cardboard jacket 1 encloses a cylindrical zinc container 2 having an impregnated paper liner 4. The carbon rod 5 has longitudinal channels 6, and is grooved as shown at 15. The ends of the liner 4 are turned over on to the top of the mix 14, and one or more calico washers 8 placed over it. Above there is the washer 9 having perforations 10 filled with sealing material, and covered by another calico washer. A spacing piece 11 rests on the washer 9, and the whole cell is sealed by a composition 13 such as pitch, carried by a washer 12. A washer 18 of the type disclosed in Specification 372,874 may be used at the bottom of the cell.
