Abstract
371,624. Heating water. BARRALET, J. H. and NEW GEYSERS (1931), Ltd., 25, Addington Square, Camberwell, London. May 8, 1931, No. 13703. [Class 64 (i).] In a direct contact heater, a shower of water, after falling through the heating gases rising in body 1 of the heater, encounters two or more baffles 8, 9, 10 supported above the outlet 6 from the burner chamber, the upper baffle 8 being imperforate and having a domed top 8a formed with a rim 8c, and the other baffles having a central aperture and also a rim to form a peripheral trough into which the greater part of the water from the baffle above falls. The baffles are provided with peripheral depending flanges which are directed inwardly at their lower edges 8e, 9e, 10e to direct the falling water on the baffle below. Upstanding flanges 9d, 10d at the periphery of the apertures in baffles 9, 10 terminate just below the plane of edges 8e, 9e. The baffles, which may be formed of spun sheet metal, are connected together to form a unit by sheet-metal supports 11. The heated water is withdrawn through a port 7.
