[Class 119.] Relates to air rifles, air pistols, and the like, of the kind in which the barrel acts as a cocking lever. According to the invention, the breech end of the barrel co-operates with a rotatable locking member which, upon rotation, is adapted to lock the barrel in the firing position and simultaneously to draw the breech end thereof into airtight engagement with the fixed breechblock. In the form shown, the barrel 7, Fig. 1, of an air rifle is pivoted to the forward end of the air compression chamber 11. The breech end of the barrel is formed with an annular recess 7a, Fig. 2, which is adapted to enter a slot 8a of a rotatable U-shaped member 8, Fig. 6, having a screw-threaded engagement with the breech-block 9. The breech-block is vertically slotted at 9b to receive the rear end of the barrel. The barrel is embraced, in its firing position, by the member 8 when the latter is rotated by a handle 10. At the same time, due to the screw-threaded engagement between the member 8 and the breech-block, the member 8 moves rearwardly and the rear face thereof is brought to bear against the tapered wall 7b of the barrel recess 7a. The rear face of the barrel is thereby brought into airtight abutment against a resilient washer 14 interposed between the barrel and the breech-block. A set-screw 8d limits the angular movement of the member 8.
